After Baba Gurbachan Singh Khalsa ‘Bhindrawaley’,
Baba Mohan Singh was unanimously elected
as his rightful successor to Samparda Bhindra.
Why else would he still have control of the
original shrines and lands at Bhindra established
by Baba Sundar Singh?

The younger brother of Baba Sundar Singh, Sant
Baba Inder Singh commented:
‘On the completion
of Sikh religious services of Sant Giani
Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa’s demise
on 8/7/1969, according to his last wish
the head Granthi of the Golden Temple, the
five Takhts Jathedars, Shiromani Akali Dal,
and the leading leaders of the Sikh nation
of Shiromani Committee, the head Mahant
Sahib of the Nirmala Akharas, all other
Sikh Samparda, Sants and holy of Bhindra
branches and its leading Singhs, the members
of the two village councils of Bhindra village
with the congregation of near and far. All
in the gathering, that day, at Bhindra,
through me, had the turban of leadership
bound on Giani Mohan Singh and they were
given the service of teaching the meaning
of Sikh scriptures and full control of Gurdwara
Siri Akhand Prakash. This service
he is doing with humility as a ‘Nishkam
Sewak’ (a servant desire less of rewards).
He has no ego of this position or desire
to hold on to it. This position he has never
used for personal fame. This service was
given to him by the congregation.’ ‘Amrit Jiwan’,
by Dr Sher Singh Giani, Appendix Pa.237
A small group of Samparda Bhindra followers
objected to 50-year old Baba Mohan Singh’s
succession. They stated that Baba Gurbachan
Singh had chosen the 37-year old Kartar Singh
as his successor before his death. Kartar Singh’s
followers claim that Baba Gurbachan Singh had
declared 3 times in his life that after him
Kartar Singh would be head of Samparda Bhindra.

According to Kartar Singh’s followers,
Baba Gurbachan Singh first said in 13/4/1964
then in 1966, and finally as stated below:
‘The third time when
they were at Sultanpur Lodhi. On completion
of religious discourse he, like every day
was reading 25 pages of Guru Granth and
Khalsa Ji [Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji] in joy
said: “Bhai
Kartar Singh Satgur has blessed here many
poor ones lets have Satgur fill your ‘Choli’
(hem of shirt gathered to receive gift)
and give you service of the Jatha”
The Khalsa Ji also said some special words
with regards to the service of Jatha, which
he [Kartar Singh] noted on a piece of paper
and Khalsa Ji then said:
“Some holy day we will speak
of this in the congregation.’
